On December 9 and December 12, the International Youth and Students for Social Equality is holding meetings on the attacks in France and the US, and the way they are being used by the ruling class. The meetings will be addressed by SEP National Secretary Joseph Kishore (Detroit) and Assistant National Secretary Lawrence Porter (New York).

The horrific attacks in Paris and San Bernardino have been seized upon by France, the United States and the other major powers as a pretext to escalate the drive to war in the Middle East and accelerate the destruction of democratic rights at home.

The attacks are themselves the result of decades of imperialist war in the Middle East. In the case of San Bernardino, endless war abroad is combined with the noxious state of social relations within the United States, where mass killings are a daily occurrence.

Without any examination of the causes of these tragedies, the media and politicians are demanding a new “war on terror.” In France, the government has declared an unending “state of emergency.” In the United States, there are demands for an expansion of the spying powers of the NSA and FBI.
